Plot Sakthi (Kannan) was an orphan, born in temple and sang devotional hymns for the temple idol. He became blind after an accident. Ponni (Radha) used to hear his singing while visiting the temple and fell in love with him. However, Ponni's mother Vadivukarasai wanted her to get married to Radharavi, her relation who had come from Singapore. Ponni was not willing to marry Radharavi. Ponni performs all of Sakthi's chores without his knowledge.
As Sakthi was blind, he couldn't see Ponni, but he could hear Ponni's anklets (a ornament which bharathanatiyam dancers wore in their legs). Once when Sakthi was putting flowers on the goddess Ambal, they fell on Ponni. From that incident Ponni started to think of Sakthi as her husband and tells that to Sakthi. Sakthi was happy to hear that and he accepted it. Due to illness, Ponni did not go to meet Sakthi for 3 days. When Sakthi came to know that she was ill, he goes to her house to see her.
Her mothers sees them talking and enquires who is that person. Ponni says that he is an astrologer and that he was blind. Ponni's mom informs her worker to give him food whilst telling that he looked like an beggar. After she left, Ponni apologizes to Sakthi for her mother's behaviour and when both talk, Nayanam (Goundamani) hears it and informs Radharavi.

Immediately, Radharavi's family goes to Ponni's home for fixing the marriage. But in the engagement, Ponni says that she doesn't like him.
